Wärtsilä and Elomatic have entered into a licensing agreement to share intellectual property rights, technology, and trademarks for Elomatic’s Elogrid solution, a transverse thruster grid technology that improves vessel performance and reduces fuel consumption. The agreement allows Wärtsilä to sell, produce, install, and maintain the technology within specified territories for a period of 12 years. The solution will be offered to Wärtsilä clients as ‘ELOGRID™ by Wärtsilä’ and combines Elomatic’s Elogrid with Wärtsilä’s thrusters. Both companies aim to support the decarbonisation efforts of the global vessel fleet by providing more efficient and environmentally friendly solutions.
Rami Hirsimäki, Senior Vice President of Marine at Elomatic, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, citing the companies’ history of cooperation on various technologies. Wärtsilä’s Director of Thruster and Propulsion Control Systems, Lauri Tiainen, highlighted the importance of the Elogrid solution in helping vessel owners and operators reduce operational costs and comply with environmental regulations by saving fuel and increasing efficiency.
The agreement also includes interim checkpoints to assess the progress of the partnership. This collaboration builds on the companies’ expertise and aims to address the increasing challenges faced by the maritime industry. Wärtsilä has recently announced other partnerships and projects aimed at providing more sustainable solutions for the maritime sector, such as providing technology for new Pure Car/Truck Carrier vessels.
