Green Up Vermont Celebrates 55 Years of Community Clean-Up Tradition

For over five decades, Green Up Vermont has been organizing Green Up Day on the first Saturday in May. The annual event brings together families and neighbors to clean up litter and debris from roadsides and waterways, promoting a sense of community pride and environmental stewardship.

As the nonprofit organization behind Green Up Day, Green Up Vermont works year-round to educate Vermonters on waste reduction habits and take action to keep the state’s environment clean and healthy. Executive Director Kate Alberghini emphasizes the importance of addressing climate change through collective efforts to reduce waste and litter, as studies show the damaging effects of trash on the environment.

Vermonters can support Green Up Vermont by donating on Line 23 of the Vermont Income Tax Form, helping to fund initiatives that keep the state clean and green. Last year, Vermonters set a Guinness World Record for the most pledges to pick up trash in 24 hours on Green Up Day.

With the ongoing mission to empower individuals to make a positive impact on their environment, Green Up Vermont encourages everyone to get involved and help make Vermont a beautiful place to live, work, and play.
