The University of Vermont Athletic Department recently announced the establishment of a new $250,000 endowment fund to support women’s athletics at UVM, thanks to the generosity of alumna Mary Hynes ’80 and her husband, Marc. The Hynes Family Women’s Sports Fund was introduced during UVM’s observance of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The fund will provide additional support for coaches and players of the women’s sports teams at the university.
UVM Director of Athletics Jeff Schulman expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its importance in enhancing and elevating the women’s sports programs at the university. Interim UVM President Patricia Prelock also thanked Mary Hynes for her investment in UVM Athletics, highlighting the significance of supporting female student-athletes in achieving their athletic dreams.
The announcement was made during an in-game ceremony at a UVM Women’s Basketball game at Patrick Gymnasium, where various female student-athletes joined the presentation. The endowment fund aims to inspire and support future generations of young UVM women in pursuing their athletic goals.
The Catamounts women’s programs have seen significant success in recent years, with victories in seven America East Championships. The establishment of the Hynes Family Women’s Sports Fund will further support the success and development of female student-athletes at UVM, both on and off the field.
