Trump fires head of the National Archives

President Donald Trump has dismissed the head of the National Archives, Colleen Shogan, following through on a vow to change the leadership of the agency. Shogan was involved in a criminal case accusing Trump of mishandling classified documents. White House official Sergio Gor announced the dismissal on X, but did not indicate who would take over Shogan’s position. The National Archives did not provide a response, referring questions to the White House. Shogan acknowledged her termination on LinkedIn, saying she was fired without cause. Trump had previously stated his intention to fire Shogan in an interview. The National Archives played a key role in the criminal case against Trump, alerting the Justice Department that he had potentially mishandled classified documents. Trump eventually returned some records but kept others, leading to a criminal investigation and subsequent dismissal of charges due to a technicality. Since taking office, the Trump administration has dismissed several officials involved in investigations against the president. Two groups of FBI agents who participated in these investigations are suing the DOJ for allegedly using a survey to target them for dismissal.
