Trace Williams Donato, a native of Yorkshire, England, has found her passion in Southern cuisine as the owner of Ella & Bee Bakery in Indianola, Mississippi. After working in California for many years, cooking for celebrities such as Journey and Erykah Badu, she fell in love with Mississippi after meeting chefs from the state. Eventually, she moved to Mississippi, where she now runs her bakery and continues to work as a caterer and private chef.
Donato’s love for Southern cooking stems from her Italian restaurant family background and her marriage into a Southern family. She has dedicated over twenty-five years to learning and growing in Southern cuisine, including keeping old family recipes alive. The bakery, named after her two mothers-in-law, has been successful, specializing in products made without chemical preservatives and with love.
Currently, Ella & Bee Bakery is busy with king cake production using grandma Ella’s recipe. They sold out of 1,000 king cakes during last year’s Mardi Gras season. Donato and her team are also open to custom orders and offer a variety of baked goods from traditional Southern desserts to Argentine-inspired treats. Despite not cooking for celebrities anymore, Donato finds joy in seeing people enjoy the food she creates and is grateful for the support her bakery has received, especially during a challenging year for small businesses. She looks forward to what the future holds for Ella & Bee Bakery.
