Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports has announced Evan Fennelly, Barb Heath, and Aharoni Zisling as the 2024 Volunteers of the Year. The nonprofit organization aims to empower individuals of all abilities through inclusive sports. Executive Director Erin Fernandez praised the recipients for their tireless dedication, strong leadership, and big hearts.
Evan Fennelly, a volunteer since 2018, spent nearly every weekend this past winter teaching over 30 lessons at the Sugarbush Resort/Mt. Ellen location. Program coordinator Sarah Keith commended Fennelly’s commitment, energy, and enthusiasm, highlighting his proactive approach to seeking out new training opportunities.
Barb Heath, a four-year volunteer, has helped with a variety of activities including skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, biking, and paddling. Known for her willingness to fill in last-minute scheduling gaps, Heath’s flexibility and versatility have been invaluable to the organization.
Aharoni Zisling, volunteering since 2019, contributes his time and talent year-round to both winter and warm weather programs. Zisling assists in every discipline of adaptive Snowsports lessons and is actively involved in fundraising events for Vermont Adaptive.
Fernandez expressed gratitude for the exceptional contributions of Fennelly, Heath, and Zisling, emphasizing their vital roles in upholding the organization’s mission and values. The Volunteers of the Year award recognizes their outstanding efforts in making adaptive sports accessible to individuals of all abilities.
