Police issue alert for suspect accused of selling guns to Vermont border agent shooting suspect.

In response to the shooting death of U.S. Border Patrol agent David “Chris” Maland, police in Vermont and surrounding regions are on the lookout for 32-year-old Michelle J. Zajko, who is believed to have purchased the handguns used in the incident. Zajko is also a person of interest in the 2023 murder of her parents in Pennsylvania and is considered armed and dangerous with an “anti-law enforcement ideology.” Law enforcement officials are urging federally licensed gun dealers to contact the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) office in Vermont if they have any information about firearms sold to Zajko. It is believed that she may be driving a green 2013 Subaru Outback with an expired Vermont registration. Records indicate that the weapons purchased by Zajko were allegedly sold to the suspects in Maland’s death in February 2024. One of the suspects, 21-year-old Teresa Youngblut, was arrested on assault and gun charges and is being held without bail, while the other suspect, German national Felix Bauckholt, died in an exchange of gunfire with border agents. Zajko’s ties to Vermont, Pennsylvania, and Boston, as well as her property ownership in Derby, Vermont, are being investigated. This case highlights the importance of tracking firearms sales and preventing illegal gun transactions that can lead to tragic incidents like Maland’s death.
