Lunar New Year celebrations are in full swing across Vermont and around the world as billions of people ring in the Year of the Snake in 2025. This holiday, considered the most important in Chinese culture, is also widely celebrated in South Korean, Vietnamese, and other cultures influenced by Chinese traditions. In Vermont, the Vermont Chinese School is hosting its 31st annual Lunar New Year celebration, featuring a lunch, performances by students and teachers, and traditional lion and dragon dances to bring luck and chase away bad luck and beasts.
In addition to the Vermont Chinese School’s event at South Burlington Middle School, another Lunar New Year celebration is set to take place in Middlebury, hosted by Addison County BIPIC+. These celebrations mark the beginning of up to 16 days of festivities for Lunar New Year. With an estimated 2 billion people worldwide participating in the holiday, the Lunar New Year is a time of joy, tradition, and renewal for all who celebrate it.
