The No. 18 New Hampshire Wildcats defeated the Vermont Catamounts 5-2 in a Hockey East matchup at the Whittemore Center. Four different players scored for New Hampshire, while Max Strand led Vermont with a goal and an assist. Head Coach Steve Wiedler commented on the team’s injuries and sickness affecting their performance. Despite their efforts, Vermont couldn’t match New Hampshire’s speed and intensity. The Wildcats took a 4-0 lead before Vermont scored two late goals, including a long-range shot by Xavier Henry. With the win, Community Bank N.A. will donate $150 to Special Olympics Vermont. Max Strand became the first Vermont rookie to reach 20 points since 2017-18. Vermont will have a bye week before facing No. 12 UMass Lowell on February 7 at the Tsongas Center. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and WVMT. Follow @UVMmhockey on social media for updates. Handy Toyota is the presenting sponsor of the UVM men’s hockey program.
