Rutland Youth Theatre Set to Bring "Elf Jr. the Musical" to Life This Weekend

Rutland, VT – The Rutland Youth Theatre (RYT) is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to open "Elf Jr. the Musical" this Friday, December 13, at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre. With additional showings on Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m., the production promises to engage audiences with its whimsical story based on the classic 2003 comedy featuring Will Ferrell.

The musical tells the heartwarming tale of Buddy the Elf, a human raised in the North Pole who embarks on a journey to find his biological father in New York City. Filled with upbeat songs by Tony Award-nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, and a book penned by Tony Award-winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, the production features a talented cast of 88 young performers from 30 different schools, ensuring a vibrant display of local artistic talent.

Director Haley Lassen expressed her enthusiasm, noting the impressive turnout for auditions, which garnered close to 140 young hopefuls. “The community’s response showcases the importance of this program,” she stated, emphasizing RYT’s commitment to providing opportunities for children to engage in the performing arts. The diverse cast includes both veterans and newcomers, highlighting the inclusive nature of the theatre program.

15-year-old James Shorey, playing the energetic Buddy, reflects on the role’s demanding enthusiasm, while his co-stars, including 17-year-old Jackson Marks as Buddy’s father, Walter Hobbes, and 15-year-old Apple Williams as Jovie, share their excitement for a production that has already forged lasting friendships among participants.

Tickets for "Elf Jr. the Musical" are available at $15 for adults and $10 for children and seniors. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.paramountvt.org. Don’t miss out on this festive and heartwarming experience!
