Press Release

Northeast Kingdom Residents Embrace Solar Energy Training Program

St. Johnsbury, VT – In a significant step towards enhancing renewable energy education, twenty residents from the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) have been granted free access to an introductory online course in Solar Installation & Design. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Northeastern Vermont Development Association (NVDA) and the Vermont Council on Rural Development (VCRD), made possible through the VCRD Climate Catalyst Innovation Fund.

The program includes participants from various NEK towns, including Barnet, Canaan, Coventry, and St. Johnsbury, and features both online coursework and in-person learning at local educational institutions like North Country Career Center and Canaan Technical Center. The training aims to empower community members by providing essential skills for engaging in the growing solar industry.

The online course is designed for beginners, making it accessible for individuals without prior experience in electrical systems. Instructors emphasize that the curriculum is suitable for anyone curious about renewable energy or those looking to start a career in solar energy. “This training represents a great opportunity for the community to contribute to a sustainable future,” says Hazen Converse, instructor at North Country Career Center.

As demand for clean energy professionals expands, this initiative positions the NEK to harness the environmental and economic benefits of renewable energy. “As residents become skilled in solar installation and design, our region will be better equipped to embrace a sustainable energy future,” states David Snedeker, NVDA Executive Director.
