Despite this positive outlook, local business owners have expressed concern over an ongoing labor shortage, urging the need for greater awareness of these in-demand positions. “We have tens of thousands of jobs available in Vermont. It’s crucial that both young people and adults seeking new careers know about the lucrative opportunities here,” said Scott.
The Vermont’s Most Promising Jobs brochure, a collaborative effort between VDOL and the McClure Foundation, has been a vital career exploration resource since 2014, targeting students, job seekers, and prospective residents. Michael Harrington, Commissioner of the Department of Labor, emphasized the significance of this resource in connecting Vermonters with meaningful career paths.
The McClure Foundation distributes the brochure biennially to schools, organizations, and individuals statewide, offering mini-grants to aid schools and community entities in utilizing this valuable resource. Carolyn Weir, executive director of the McClure Foundation, highlighted the brochure as a hopeful tool for fostering discussions about career pathways.
