Vermont Watershed Grants Program Now Accepting Applications
Montpelier, VT – The 2025 Vermont Watershed Grants Program has officially opened its application period for projects aimed at safeguarding and enhancing the state’s valuable water resources, including lakes, streams, rivers, and ponds. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on February 5, 2025.
Available to municipalities, local and regional agencies, sporting clubs, non-profits, and citizen groups, this program prioritizes projects that protect or restore aquatic habitats. Past initiatives funded by the grants include streamside vegetation restoration, dam removals, and culvert replacements to improve fish passage.
For the 2025 cycle, a total of $70,000 will be allocated across three project categories: education and outreach will receive a maximum of $5,000; planning, assessment, inventory, and monitoring projects can apply for up to $3,500; while on-the-ground implementation projects may receive up to $10,000.
The Vermont Watershed Grants Program is a collaboration between the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department and the Department of Environmental Conservation, established through legislative action and funded primarily by sales of the Vermont Conservation License Plate. "When Vermonters purchase a Conservation License Plate, they’re actively contributing to the protection of our streams, lakes, and wildlife habitats for future generations," remarked Fish and Wildlife Interim Commissioner Andrea Shortsleeve.
