The 2025 high school football season in Vermont is set to be a competitive one, with the Vermont Interscholastic Football League (VIFL) announcing some key updates. Division I will now feature 10 teams, while Bellows Falls and Mount Abraham are shifting down to Division III. The playoffs will remain the same, with the top eight teams from each division qualifying for postseason play.
The VIFL considered each school’s male student enrollment as the primary factor for divisional placement, aligning with the VPA’s system for core sports. The goal is to create competitive regular-season matchups and strengthen football across Vermont. Oxbow will not be included in the updated alignment after not fielding a team in 2024 due to low numbers.
Middlebury petitioned up to remain in Division I, while Fair Haven also petitioned to stay in Division II. Key dates for the 2025 season have been announced, with practices starting on Aug. 11 and the first regular-season games scheduled for Sept. 4-6. The season will conclude on Nov. 15 with championship Saturday at South Burlington High School.
The three divisions for the 2025 season are as follows:
Division I: B.F.A.-St. Albans, Brattleboro, Burr and Burton, Champlain Valley, and others.
Division II: Colchester, Fair Haven, Hartford, Lyndon Institute, and others.
Division III: B.F.A-Fairfax, Bellows Falls, Mill River, Missisquoi, and others.
