In a tough match on the road, the Vermont Catamounts women’s soccer team fell 2-0 to New Hampshire at Wildcat Stadium in Durham. This was the team’s first conference match of the season, bringing their record to 5-2-3 (0-1 AE), while New Hampshire improved to 6-2-1 (1-0 AE).
Head Coach Kristi Huizenga acknowledged that the team made some uncharacteristic mistakes that ultimately cost them the game. Despite their solid performance throughout the season, they struggled to adapt to New Hampshire’s style of play in this particular match.
The first goal came early in the game, with Meghan Guarente scoring in the 4th minute and Elaina Grenz adding another goal for New Hampshire in the 41st minute. The Catamounts were unable to respond in the second half, leading to the 2-0 loss.
Despite the defeat, Jill Brody had a team high of three shots, with Bailey Ayer and Emma Warren playing the full 90 minutes of the match.
Looking ahead, Vermont will return home to face Maine in their first home conference match of the season on September 29th at Virtue Field. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Brian McLaughlin calling the action.
