Luigi Mangione, the man charged with killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was seen at a Port Authority bus station in Manhattan 46 minutes after the crime before making his way to Pennsylvania. Thompson was shot from behind outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel and died as a result. Mangione was eventually arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after evading police for several days. He was tracked through various locations in Pennsylvania and was arrested on firearms charges.
Authorities were able to determine Mangione’s movements through security footage and witness accounts. He was seen at the bus station and a hostel on the Upper West Side in Manhattan before the shooting took place. Mangione was identified through surveillance footage and the discovery of fraudulent identification documents.
After being taken into custody, Mangione is faced with charges including murder, possession of a firearm without a license, tampering with records, and providing false identification to law enforcement. Mangione resisted during his preliminary arraignment in Pennsylvania, expressing his intention to fight extradition to New York.
The investigation into the case revealed Mangione’s movements between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, with authorities retracing his steps to gather evidence. The case remains ongoing as prosecutors work to build a solid case against Mangione for the murder of Brian Thompson.
