Vermont’s “Operation Fire Cuffs” Kicks Off 13th Annual Holiday Toy Drive
BURLINGTON, Vt. — The holiday spirit is alive and well in Vermont as the annual toy drive known as "Operation Fire Cuffs" returns for its 13th consecutive year. This initiative supports families spending Christmas at the UVM Children’s Hospital by collecting new, unwrapped toys and gift cards for children of all ages. Launched in 2010 through a collaboration between Burlington Police, Morristown Police, and the Vermont State Police, the toy drive has expanded significantly, now involving more than 20 local agencies.
Deputy Sgt. Michael Mattuchio from the Vermont State Police emphasized the initiative’s growth and impact. "Knowing that these toys bring smiles to the faces of children is truly priceless," he said. "Providing them with one less concern is a wonderful feeling."
This year, organizers have set an ambitious goal to fill a fire truck with 1,000 toys by the donation deadline on December 19. Sgt. David Dewey from the Colchester Police Department expressed the lasting joy these gifts provide. "These toys bring them joy throughout most of the year," he noted. "It’s wonderful to know that we can contribute, even just a little, to improving their lives."
