Rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z, along with Sean “Diddy” Combs, are facing allegations of raping a teenage girl more than two decades ago after an awards show. The plaintiff, a 13-year-old at the time, claims she met the men at an event and was taken to an after-party where she was given a drink that made her woozy. She alleges that Jay-Z raped her while Diddy watched. Diddy then allegedly tried to force her to perform oral sex, but she fought back and escaped. Both men have denied the allegations, with Jay-Z calling them “idiotic” and Diddy’s legal team dismissing the suit as a publicity stunt.
The lawsuit was originally filed against Diddy in October but was amended to include Jay-Z as a defendant. Jay-Z has accused the plaintiff’s lawyer of trying to blackmail him into settling the case. The plaintiff sought confidential mediation, not money. A judge has been asked to either deny the plaintiff’s request to remain anonymous or dismiss the case.
Jay-Z and Diddy both rose to fame in the 1990s New York hip-hop scene, founded record labels, and became successful entrepreneurs. Jay-Z founded Roc Nation and is estimated to have a wealth of $2.5 billion, while Diddy’s wealth comes in part from a partnership with a vodka brand. Diddy is currently facing federal charges related to sex trafficking, coercion, and exploitation of women. He has denied the allegations in both the criminal case and multiple lawsuits filed by more than 100 accusers.
