Final Report Released by House Task Force on Trump Assassination Attempts

[ad_1]
The House task force investigating the assassination attempts against Donald Trump released its final report, making recommendations for the Secret Service to improve security measures. The report highlighted failures that led to the July 13 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman grazed Trump’s ear during a rally. The task force suggested recording all radio transmissions and focusing on protecting the president and top U.S. officials over foreign leaders. They praised the Secret Service for preventing a second attack in Florida later that year. Recommendations also included providing additional staffing for high-pressure moments, improving training for non-Secret Service personnel, and formalizing conflict resolution processes with protectees’ staff. The task force identified decision points that, if handled differently, could have prevented the gunman from firing at the rally. Failure to secure the area next to the rally venue allowed the gunman to evade law enforcement and open fire. Additionally, unclear guidance to local partners and lack of manpower were also highlighted as contributing factors to the security breach. The report criticized the Secret Service for assigning inexperienced personnel to key roles and for not properly addressing preexisting issues in leadership and training. The task force had limited access to witness interviews, but still identified key areas for improvement in the Secret Service’s protective measures.
