Vermont Agriculture Initiatives Announce Grant Opportunities for Farmers
Montpelier, VT – The Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets, through the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board, is rolling out grant opportunities aimed at enhancing water quality on farms statewide. The Farm & Forest Viability Program is offering grants of up to $50,000 for on-farm capital improvement projects that promote better water management and help farmers comply with regulations. Eligible farms must match funding dollar-for-dollar, with potential matching contributions from labor or partnership programs like the NRCS-EQIP.

Additionally, the Trade Show Assistance Grant is now open, providing Vermont’s agricultural, food, and forestry businesses with financial support to exhibit at trade shows outside the state. Applicants can receive between $2,000 and $5,000 to offset costs for up to five trade shows, requiring at least three established wholesale accounts. With $50,000 available from the Working Lands Enterprise Initiative, applications must be submitted by January 20th.
The "Wholesale Readiness Program for Food Entrepreneurs" is geared towards established food businesses looking to expand into wholesale markets. Starting in January 2025, this free program features expert-led online sessions with an optional in-person final event.
Finally, farmers impacted by severe flooding this past July in areas such as Washington and Caledonia counties can seek support through the USDA’s Emergency Conservation and Forest Restoration Programs, with assistance requests due by late December.
