Black Hole Records, a staple in Fullerton’s punk scene since 1986, is more than just a record store – it’s a hub for the alternative music community. Founded by William Evans, a punk musician himself, the store offers a range of items catering to fans of punk rock, new wave, psychobilly, and britpop. Sharing its space with Stray Cat Vintage & Costumes, Black Hole Records prides itself on its unique inventory, including vinyls, CDs, clothing, and even vintage punk zines.
In addition to being a retail space, Black Hole Records also hosts events like the Fullerton Day of Music, where local bands perform. Evans, who also plays in SoCal punk band Naughty Women, believes in the importance of providing young music fans with authentic, tangible music experiences. Many young customers have gravitated towards vinyl, CDs, and cassettes in recent years, valuing the quality of sound over digital convenience.
For Fullerton College student Angelo Crisostomo, Black Hole Records has been a valuable resource in expanding his music taste. Despite the uncertainty of the store’s future, Evans recognizes the impact it has had on the community and the memories it has created for its patrons. Whether it stays open or not, Black Hole Records will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who have come through its doors.
