Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has announced that she will step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) at the organization’s next meeting after achieving her goals of fundraising, election integrity, and voter turnout. She has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Senator Marco Rubio, who may be nominated as secretary of state. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will have the final say on who fills the Senate vacancy, and he is reportedly being considered as a replacement for the embattled choice for defense secretary, Pete Hegseth. Trump and DeSantis have reportedly discussed the issue, with Trump expressing his preference for DeSantis to make the decision. Hegseth’s nomination is facing challenges due to allegations of mistreatment of women and concerns about his drinking habits. Despite the controversy surrounding his nomination, Hegseth has vowed not to withdraw as Trump’s pick. Lara Trump has not ruled out the possibility of serving in another capacity if asked, acknowledging that it would be an honor for her. The RNC has not responded to the announcement of Lara Trump’s resignation as co-chair.
