United States District Attorney Nikolas Kerest has appointed Assistant United States Attorney Jason Turner as Vermont’s District Election Officer to handle any complaints related to voting rights, threats of violence to election officials, and voter fraud.
Turner’s role is part of the Justice Department’s Election Day Program, which aims to give voters confidence in the electoral process by providing a local point of contact for election-related concerns. Federal law protects against crimes such as threats of violence, bribery, and voter impersonation. Special measures are also in place to ensure a free and fair election without intimidation or interference.
Residents with complaints or concerns regarding voter fraud or criminal activity are encouraged to contact DEO Turner at 802-651-8246. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is also prepared to address allegations of election fraud through their field offices and resident agencies nationwide. Individuals can reach an agent by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI or file a complaint with the Civil Rights Division in Washington, DC.
Kerest emphasized the importance of reporting any immediate crimes or intimidation to local authorities before reaching out to federal agencies. With the election approaching, Vermont is focused on safeguarding the integrity of the voting process and ensuring that residents can cast their ballots with peace of mind.
