Steve Mensch, the president and general manager at Tyler Perry Studios, was tragically killed in a plane crash in Florida on Friday night. It is unclear if he was a passenger or the pilot of the single-engine fixed-wing aircraft that crashed in Homosassa. The victim’s name has not been officially released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Tyler Perry Studios confirmed Mensch’s passing and expressed deep sadness over the loss of their cherished team member of over 8 years. They described Mensch as well-beloved in the Atlanta community and offered prayers and condolences to his family.
The crash resulted in the closure of parts of Highway 19 and Longfellow Street, but all lanes were reopened by 2:30 a.m. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office provided updates on the situation via Facebook.
Minyvonne Burke, a senior breaking news reporter for NBC News, reported on Mensch’s untimely death. Catherine Saunders also contributed to the coverage of this tragic event. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by authorities.
