Yale Bulldogs Set to Face Vermont Catamounts in Home Showdown

New Haven, Conn. – The Yale men’s basketball team is gearing up to host the Vermont Catamounts this Saturday, December 7, at 2 p.m. in the John J. Lee Amphitheater. After a challenging stretch of road games, the Bulldogs enter this matchup with a 4-5 season record, looking to bounce back after their recent 84-78 loss to Rhode Island, where standout John Poulakidas scored 25 points.

Head Coach James Jones recently achieved a milestone, marking his 400th career victory in a comprehensive win over Fairfield on November 23. Johnson Poulakidas has emerged as a key player, averaging 21.1 points per game and ranking among the top scorers in NCAA Division I. He is joined in double digits by Nick Townsend (13.1) and Bez Mbeng (12.0). Poulakidas’ performance against Rhode Island also placed him amongst the nation’s best, as he leads Yale with 32 three-pointers and boasts a free-throw percentage of 94.12%.

The Bulldogs have a storied rivalry with Vermont, boasting a series history that dates back to the 2007-08 season, with the Catamounts holding a narrow lead at 19-15. In their last encounter, Yale suffered a heart-wrenching 66-65 defeat in Burlington last year, but they dominated the previous matchup in New Haven, winning decisively and outscoring Vermont 46-14 in the second half.

Meanwhile, Vermont arrives with a 5-5 record and is seeking to recover after a loss to Brown. Players to watch include Sean Blake and T.J. Hurley, who have been consistent scorers for the Catamounts.

The Bulldogs will play two more games in 2024, including a trip to El Paso for the Sun Bowl Invitational later this month. Fans can catch the action live on ESPN+ or through the international stream.
