Jaspers Aim for Momentum in Non-Conference Finale Against Catamounts
BURLINGTON, VT – The Manhattan Jaspers are on a roll, boasting their best start under head coach Heather Vulin with a 6-2 record heading into their final non-conference matchup against the Vermont Catamounts on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Patrick Gymnasium.
Key to Manhattan’s success has been graduate forward Leyla Ozturk, who currently ranks 16th in NCAA Division 1 with 20 blocks this season. The Jaspers hope to close out their non-conference schedule on a victorious note. Historically, they have struggled against Vermont, but Vulin’s squad turned the tide last season with a significant double-digit win. Notably, Petra Juric posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the last season’s faceoff, while Ines Gimenez Monserrat contributed 13 points and six successful free throws.
Vermont, on the other hand, enters the contest following a strong performance last season, finishing with a 25-12 overall record and reaching the Jersey Mike’s America East Championship game. The Catamounts will be looking to bounce back after an overtime loss to Bucknell (62-59) earlier this week.
The Catamounts’ Andrea Olson, returning for her final year, has established herself as a key player, ranking fourth in the America East with an average of 15.2 points per game. Additionally, redshirt junior Catherine Gilwee leads the conference in assists, while senior guard Bella Vito has made her mark with 24 steals this season.
