Woman charged in federal court for flying from New York to Paris without a ticket

Svetlana Dali, a woman who boarded a Delta flight from New York to Paris without a ticket, has been charged with being a stowaway. She appeared in court for arraignment and could face up to five years in prison if convicted. Her attorney compared her actions to jumping a turnstile or theft of services. Dali was detained in Paris and ultimately denied entry into the country due to lack of valid travel documents. She was interviewed by FBI agents upon returning to the U.S. and admitted to knowing her actions were illegal. According to TSA administrator David Pekoske, bypassing airport security checkpoints is rare and it was clear from security video that Dali was trying to evade them. Dali is currently detained in Brooklyn and her attorney is working on a bail package while trying to locate her Pennsylvania address. She is a permanent U.S. resident and believes her life is in danger if she remains in detention. Her case has raised concerns about security procedures at airports and the potential risks posed by stowaways on flights.
