St. Albans Celebrates 14th Annual Running of the Bells
ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) – The festive spirit filled the air in St. Albans on Thursday night as community members gathered for the 14th Annual Running of the Bells event. Taylor Park transformed into a bustling hub of holiday cheer, where attendees enjoyed hot chocolate and donuts while awaiting the one-mile run that makes this event a cherished tradition.
Children and families had the opportunity to meet Santa Claus, take photos, and interact with a baby cow, adding a touch of farm charm to the winter celebration. A highlight of the evening was the costume contest, where participants showcased their creativity with an array of festive outfits, including ugly sweaters, Santa Claus and elf costumes, and even a duo dressed as Christmas trees adorned with presents.
Milton resident Norma Jodoin, who returned to the event this year, shared her enthusiasm about the costumes: “We’ve been doing this for a couple of years and every year we seem to up our game on best costume. We got it last year, so we’re hoping to get it again this year. It takes us a good few months to figure out what we’re going to do for the coming year,” she remarked.
The run kicked off promptly at 6:30 p.m., with participants donning bells that jingled with every step, creating a delightful soundscape as they made their way through downtown St. Albans. This year, proceeds from the event were designated to benefit the Franklin County Animal Rescue and the Afterglow Foundation, making the festive festivities a source of support for local causes.
The Running of the Bells continues to be a remarkable celebration of community spirit and holiday joy in St. Albans, uniting residents in the spirit of giving and festivity.
