Pitt Men’s Soccer to Face Vermont in NCAA Quarterfinals
PITTSBURGH – The No. 2-seeded Pitt men’s soccer team is set to host Vermont this Saturday, December 7, at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The match, scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. and streamed on ESPN+, will determine which team advances to the 2024 NCAA Men’s College Cup.
This season, Pitt boasts an impressive record of 14-5-0, and under head coach Jay Vidovich, they have achieved notable success in NCAA Tournament play, now holding a 12-4-1 record, including a powerful 7-1-0 at home. A victory on Saturday would not only mark Pitt’s third College Cup appearance since 2020—making them the only team to achieve this feat—but also solidify their status as a formidable force in college soccer.
Graduate midfielder Arnau Vilamitjana has emerged as a key player in the tournament, contributing multiple goals and accumulating nine points in the last six matches. The Panthers recently secured their spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Kansas City 3-2, thanks to a game-winning goal from sophomore forward Albert Thorsen in overtime.
Pitt will face Vermont for the first time, with the Catamounts holding a strong record of 14-2-5. Vermont reached the quarterfinals following victories over Iona, No. 7 Hofstra, and San Diego, where they secured a dramatic win with a penalty kick in overtime. Star players include Yaniv Bazini, who has netted 12 goals, and goalkeeper Niklas Herceg, who boasts a solid 0.68 GAA with five shutouts.
Tickets for the match are available for purchase online at $10, with game-day prices set at $12 at the Petersen Sports Complex ticket office. The anticipation builds as the Panthers aim for another shot at national glory.
