The New York Police Department is actively searching for a gunman who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Despite leaving behind some clues, including his image on security cameras and distinguishable features, the gunman has not yet been identified. Former NYPD detectives believe that the release of the shooter’s image will lead to his arrest, as they have likely received solid leads from Crime Stoppers. The police chief believes the suspect has left New York City, possibly through the Port Authority bus terminal, as the buses are interstate.
Thompson was shot in what was described as a premeditated, targeted attack outside the New York Hilton hotel. Police revealed that the shell casings found at the scene had the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” written on them, possibly indicating a motive related to Thompson’s work at UnitedHealthcare. Some experts believe the gunman may have military experience or be a hired hitman due to his calm demeanor and choice of weapon.
Investigators are also looking into the gunman’s purchase of items at Starbucks and his stay at a hostel using potentially fake identification. They are collecting evidence from the scene, including DNA, to further the investigation. The shooter’s image has been widely circulated, leading experts to believe it is only a matter of time before he is identified and arrested for the murder of Brian Thompson.
