Burlington Appoints Charles Dillard as Director of City Planning
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak announced today the appointment of Charles Dillard, AICP, as the new Director of Burlington’s Office of City Planning. Dillard, who has been serving as the Interim Director and Principal Planner, received unanimous confirmation from the City Council on November 18, 2024.
“Planning Director Dillard is an accomplished and visionary City Planner, and I am proud to have him become a permanent member of the City’s leadership team,” said Mayor Mulvaney-Stanak. “I am confident that Charles has the experience and vision to lead planning efforts that will transform Burlington into a modern, resilient, and accessible city.”
Dillard brings a wealth of knowledge to the role, holding a Master’s in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina and a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto. His previous experience includes planning positions in New York City and Raleigh, North Carolina.
Expressing his gratitude for the appointment, Dillard stated, “I am honored to serve and excited about the collaborative process of planning for our community’s future. I’m privileged to work alongside talented colleagues and an engaged Burlington community that I proudly call home.” He further emphasized his commitment to fostering a caring, resilient, and flourishing future for Burlington through collaborative efforts.
The Office of City Planning will continue to focus on important initiatives, including the PlanBTV: New North End Neighborhood Plan and the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Burlington.
As Burlington embraces this new leadership, the community can look forward to innovative planning that reflects the aspirations of its residents.
