Bucknell Women’s Basketball Celebrates Coach Woodruff’s 200th Win with Overtime Victory
LEWISBURG – The Bucknell women’s basketball team (4-4) achieved its fourth consecutive win in a thrilling 62-59 overtime clash against the Vermont Catamounts (4-6) on Wednesday. This contest marked a significant milestone for head coach Trevor Woodruff, who celebrated his 200th career win as a women’s basketball coach, showcasing an impressive .752 winning percentage over just 266 games.
The exciting match was part of Bucknell’s annual Education Day, drawing an enthusiastic crowd from local schools. "I am thrilled with the win," said Woodruff, praising Vermont as one of the toughest teams they’ve faced. "We used this game as a measuring stick."
Sophomore forward Ashley Sofilkanich was the standout player for Bucknell, scoring 23 points—20 of which came in the second half—propelling the Bison to victory. Despite a slow start, she secured the win by sinking four consecutive free throws in the final minute. "Sofilkanich staying on the court has been huge for us," Woodruff noted, highlighting her importance to the team’s success.
Tuana Coskun added 14 points, while Ashley O’Connor contributed a season-high 11. Vermont’s Anna Olson led her team with 20 points. The match was tightly contested, with neither team leading by more than six points, and Bucknell making a key 8-0 run in overtime to pull ahead.
Looking ahead, Bucknell will stay at Sojka Court for a non-conference match against Dartmouth on Friday night. As Woodruff reflected on his milestone, he emphasized the contributions of former players and coaches, expressing gratitude for the support of the Bucknell community.
