New Clariant Catalyst Technology Anticipated to Reduce 275,000 Tons of CO2 Equivalent Annually in Sichuan

[ad_1]
Clariant, a specialty chemical company focused on sustainability, has successfully implemented its EnviCat N2O-S nitrous abatement catalyst at Sichuan Lutianhua’s nitric acid plant in China. This move is projected to reduce annual emissions by 275,000 tons of CO2e. Sichuan Lutianhua, one of the winners of Clariant’s global Climate Campaign, received a free load of the catalyst as part of the initiative to help nitric acid producers lacking N2O abatement technology.

Xaver Karsunke, Vice President of Clariant Specialty Catalysts, highlighted the importance of reducing carbon footprints through innovative catalyst technology in line with China’s decarbonization efforts. Sun Guang, Assistant General Manager at Sichuan Lutianhua, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impact by partnering with Clariant.

Nitric acid production is essential for fertilizers but emits harmful N2O, which is significantly more damaging to the climate than CO2. Clariant’s catalysts can remove N2O and other nitrogen oxides almost completely from production emissions, with installations in over 50 plants globally.

The Climate Campaign aims to provide nitric acid producers with an economical path to emission reduction, supporting various industries in the energy transition. The methodology used by Clariant to calculate carbon reductions for customers is based on internationally recognized standards.

Overall, Clariant’s partnership with Sichuan Lutianhua and the successful implementation of the catalyst technology demonstrate a step towards achieving emissions reduction goals and promoting sustainability in the chemical industry.
