Vermont Men’s Soccer Secures Victory Over San Diego State

In a thrilling match on Monday night, Vermont’s men’s soccer team emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over San Diego State. Maximilian Kissel’s first goal of the season proved to be the deciding factor, propelling Vermont to their first win of the season.

The Catamounts dominated the first half, outshooting the Aztecs 9-2. Kissel broke the scoreless tie in the 41st minute with a well-executed header off a cross from Yaniv Bazini. The solid defense led by goalkeeper Lou Liedtka ensured Vermont held onto their lead until the final whistle.

This victory marked the team’s first clean sheet of the season and showcased their growth over the past three matches. Head coach Rob Dow commended the team for their efforts and thanked the coaching staff for their hard work in preparing the team for success.

With this win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to the Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation as part of the Cats Win, Community Wins initiative. Since its inception in 2017, this program has donated over $94,000 to local non-profits.

Next up, Vermont will face American in their home opener on Saturday, September 7. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and serve as the Peter Baldwin Memorial Game, presented by Morgan Stanley. Fans can purchase tickets online or at the Gutterson Fieldhouse Box Office on game day.
