Vermont Men’s Basketball Falls Short Against Brown in Burlington
Burlington, Vt. – The Vermont Catamounts faced a disappointing defeat, losing 60-53 to Brown Saturday afternoon at Patrick Gym. Despite Sean Blake’s standout performance, where he scored a career-high 13 points, Vermont struggled to maintain momentum throughout the game.
The contest started with Ileri Ayo-Faleye nailing a three-pointer, giving the Catamounts an early lead at 3-0. Vermont initially appeared competitive, with compelling plays from Noah Barnet and Seth Joba, but transition difficulty became evident as Brown responded effectively to Vermont’s offense. By halftime, Vermont found themselves trailing 31-28, with Brown gaining momentum.
The second half saw Brown expand their lead with two three-pointers, pushing Vermont to a 41-35 disadvantage. Despite a strong push from the Catamounts, including a critical breakaway dunk from Shamir Bogues that briefly ignited the crowd, Vermont couldn’t close the gap sufficiently. Ayo-Faleye’s step-back three-pointer brought them within three points late in the game, yet a key three-pointer from Brown’s Kino Lilly Jr. sealed Vermont’s fate, extending the lead to seven with just minutes remaining.
Head Coach John Becker reflected on the game’s challenges, emphasizing the need for better scoring, rebounding, and ball control. “Credit to Brown; they played really hard,” Becker stated. “We’ve got to be better, and that’s on me.”
