Vermont election officials have initiated an audit of the state’s general election, as required by law. The audit, conducted by Boston-based Clear Ballot, involves seven randomly selected towns and aims to build trust in election security. This year’s audit includes Bennington-2, Burke, Caanan, Dorset, Pawlet, Vergennes and Winooski.
With a record-breaking 372,000 Vermonters casting their votes in the November election, Secretary of State Sarah Copeland Hanzas emphasized the importance of affirming the election results transparently, independently, and securely. The audit began at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, with the public able to watch remotely.
Since the audits began in 2006, no significant problems have been found in the vote counts, according to state leaders. The results of the audit will be issued by the Secretary of State’s Office on Wednesday.
The process is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the integrity and accuracy of Vermont’s election systems. By conducting these audits, officials hope to provide trustworthy facts and evidence to the public, reinforcing confidence in the election process.
