House Democrat will be pushing for a floor vote this week to release Matt Gaetz ethics report.

[ad_1]
Rep. Sean Casten, a Democrat from Illinois, is pushing for a vote to force the House Ethics Committee to release a report on its investigation into former Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Republican from Florida. Gaetz, who was a close ally of former President Donald Trump, was initially nominated for attorney general but withdrew his name amid opposition from GOP senators due to the ongoing ethics probe into allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use. The Ethics Committee had previously deadlocked along party lines on whether to make the report public, but Casten’s resolution, which is privileged and must be voted on within two legislative days, aims to compel the release of the report. Casten argues that there is a precedent for the committee to release reports on former members and that Gaetz should not be able to avoid accountability for the allegations he faces by resigning from Congress. Despite Gaetz’s withdrawal from consideration for attorney general, there is speculation that he may run for Florida governor in 2026 or join the Trump White House in a position not requiring Senate confirmation.
