In a high-scoring game, the fourth-ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs defeated the Vermont Catamounts with a final score of 9-1. The Bulldogs came out strong in the first period, scoring four goals to take an early lead. Vermont managed to score their first goal early in the second period, but Minnesota Duluth responded with three more goals to extend their lead. Caitlin Kraemer recorded a hat trick for the Bulldogs, while Hailey Eikos scored the lone goal for Vermont.
Head Coach Jim Plumer acknowledged that Duluth was the better team and emphasized the need to use this weekend’s games as preparation for the upcoming schedule. Vermont will look to bounce back in their next game against Merrimack, the final game of the calendar year for the Catamounts.
In individual performances, Eikos tied her career high with her second goal of the season, while Bent and Lewis each recorded assists to tie for a team high. Lewis and Bojarski led the team in shots on goal, with Bojarski setting a new career high in that category. Goalie Ellie Simmons also set a new career high with 31 total saves in two periods of play.
The Catamounts will continue their road trip to face Merrimack next Friday in a Hockey East matchup. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+. For more updates on the Vermont women’s hockey program, fans can follow @UVMwhockey on social media and visit UVMathletics.com.
