Community Mourns Loss of Donald H. Turner, Jr.
Milton, VT – The Milton community is grieving the loss of Donald H. Turner, Jr., who passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, following a brave battle with glioblastoma. He was 60.
Born on July 19, 1964, in Burlington, Vermont, Don was a dedicated public servant and community advocate. He served as a State Representative for the Chittenden-9 district from 2006 to 2012 and the Chittenden-10 district from 2013 to 2019. Notably, he held the position of Minority Leader of the Vermont House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019 and served as Town Manager of Milton, significantly impacting local governance.
A respected real estate broker at Century 21, Don was deeply committed to community safety, demonstrating this through his certifications as a fire instructor and his long-standing involvement with the Milton Firefighters Association, where he served as Fire Chief for 14 years, starting at just 16 years old.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Don was a devoted family man, cherishing time spent with his wife, Gail, his three daughters, and his beloved grandchildren. He instilled values of love and togetherness, prioritizing family traditions.
Don is survived by his wife, three daughters, and three grandchildren, along with his parents, siblings, and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his sister and several relatives.
A Celebration of Life is set for December 7, 2024, at the Donald H. Turner, Jr. Public Works Building in Milton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don’s honor to the McClure Miller Respite House. His legacy of kindness and commitment to the Milton community will be remembered for years to come.
