Dartmouth Defeats Vermont 3-1 in Non-Conference Showdown

Burlington, Vt. – The #14 Dartmouth Big Green triumphed over Vermont Catamounts with a decisive 3-1 victory on Sunday at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The win improved Dartmouth’s record to 6-1-1 while Vermont fell to 3-7-3.

Dartmouth set the tone early, scoring just 4:34 into the first period when Oskari Vuorio capitalized on a rebound after Vermont goaltender Axel Mangbo made an initial save. The Big Green extended their lead in the second period when defenseman John Fusco unleashed a wrist shot that found the net through a screen, putting Vermont at a 2-0 disadvantage.

Vermont fought back early in the third when Colin Kessler assisted Max Strand, narrowing Dartmouth’s lead to 2-1. Despite the Catamounts’ efforts, Dartmouth sealed their victory with a power-play goal by CJ Foley with just under ten minutes remaining, a goal that survived a challenge for offside after video review deemed it inconclusive.

Head Coach Stephen Wiedler expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, emphasizing the need for improvement among the forwards. He stated, “We gave up three goals on 15 shots against. Way too many passengers tonight among our forward group."

In addition to the game highlights, it’s notable that with each goal scored, Community Bank, N.A. committed $75 to Special Olympics Vermont, reflecting the team’s commitment to community support.

Looking ahead, Vermont will host LIU in a two-game set on December 6 and 7 at Gutterson Fieldhouse, with special promotions for fans, including replica jerseys and giveaways. The games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and WVMT.
