Young Writers Project Showcases Talents of Young Vermonters with Featured Poem “The Song-Stoked Fire”

Burlington, VT – The Young Writers Project continues its commitment to nurturing the creative talents of Vermont’s youth by featuring a captivating poem titled “The Song-Stoked Fire” by 14-year-old Maelyn Slavik from Burlington. The Young Writers Project is an innovative, online community for teen writers and visual artists that began in 2006. Each week, VTDigger publishes the artwork and writing of young Vermonters who share their creative endeavors on the interactive platform, youngwritersproject.org.

In “The Song-Stoked Fire,” Slavik beautifully captures the sensory experience of a winter hearth. Her vivid imagery transports readers to a cozy setting, seamlessly integrating the warmth of the fire with the sounds and feelings it evokes during the chilly season. She describes smoke that dances in the air and the orchestra of crackles and hisses reminiscent of musicians at work, creating an atmosphere where flames become part of a melodic concert.

Young Writers Project offers a supportive space for youth aged 13-19 to express themselves artistically and connect with fellow creatives. This initiative encourages personal development through writing and visual arts while celebrating the unique voices of Vermont’s younger generation.
