HARTFORD, Vt. (WCAX) — A German Shepherd is currently recovering from serious injuries sustained after jumping out of a moving pickup truck on Interstate 89 in Hartford, Vermont. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM on Friday when the dog, believed to have been in the truck’s bed, leapt out and was subsequently struck by another vehicle.

Emergency responders were alerted to the scene, and a Good Samaritan promptly transported the injured dog to Save’s Emergency Care in Lebanon for treatment. Authorities report that the dog suffered life-threatening injuries but is now under the care of veterinary professionals.

The truck involved in the incident is described as possibly a dark blue GMC, featuring plywood railings in the bed along with other debris. The Vermont State Police are seeking the driver of the truck, urging them to come forward in order to provide crucial information regarding the event.

In their appeal, police also encourage witnesses or anyone with relevant information about the incident to reach out to assist with the investigation. The safety of both animals and drivers on the road is a priority, and the department hopes to gather more details to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
