Six people were rescued from a collapsed home in Jefferson City, Missouri, after an unexplained explosion caused significant damage to the residence. All six individuals were taken to University Hospital in Columbia with moderate to severe injuries, and some required life-saving attention. The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a report of an explosion at the home early in the morning and found the structure had collapsed. The Special Operations Rescue Team worked to extract the victims, a challenging task due to the extensive damage and debris. It took over three hours to rescue all six individuals and two pets from the rubble.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. The city fire department praised the quick response and training of personnel, as well as the availability of the necessary equipment for the rescue operation. Jefferson City, the state capital, is located about 133 miles west of St. Louis.
