VTDigger Celebrates 15 Years of Impactful Journalism in Vermont
VTDigger, Vermont’s premier source for local news, proudly celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Founded in 2009 by Anne Galloway as a one-woman newsroom, the organization has evolved into a trusted platform for fact-based reporting, significantly contributing to the state’s media landscape.
As part of the anniversary celebration, VTDigger is inviting its community of readers to help achieve a goal of 1,500 members by December 15. By becoming a sustaining member with a contribution of $15 per month, supporters will not only ensure the continuation of this vital journalism but will also receive a special 15th-anniversary t-shirt as a token of appreciation.
In a climate where misinformation and assaults on the press challenge democratic principles, VTDigger’s role has become increasingly crucial. The organization has published over 2,450 original news stories this year alone, providing Vermonters with timely, reliable information during critical times.
However, the local news sector faces significant challenges, having witnessed a 75% decline in newspaper jobs in the past 25 years. The loss of local journalism diminishes community accountability and leaves important issues unreported. VTDigger is committed to reversing this trend by fostering a more informed Vermont.
To commemorate its milestone and support sustainable journalism, VTDigger has launched a pop-up merchandise store featuring collaborations with local artists, including Vermont cartoonist Daryl Seitchik. Proceeds from the store will directly benefit VTDigger’s mission.
As VTDigger embarks on its next chapter, the organization calls on the community to contribute and uphold the principles of local journalism for a stronger, informed Vermont. For more information on how to support VTDigger, visit their website.
