Gov. Phil Scott, along with VTDigger reporter Sarah Mearhoff, toured his hometown of Barre as Vermonters prepare to vote on Nov. 5 for candidates and local ballot initiatives. VTDigger has been providing in-depth coverage on all the big races, including the motivations behind Scott’s fifth consecutive term run and his opponents’ perspectives. Legislative races across the state, including the competitive lieutenant governor race, have been highlighted, as well as the governor’s support for Republican state Senate candidates in certain districts.
The General Election Guide from VTDigger offers insight into candidates’ views in their own words, as well as discussions on property taxes, public school funding, and donor influence in campaigns. Key debates, such as the one between gubernatorial candidates and the one featuring U.S. Rep. Becca Balint and her opponent, can be found on VTDigger’s website, along with a recap of the debate between Bernie Sanders and his challenger, Gerald Malloy.
Sanders is predicted to win his fourth term easily, but his future in politics may be impacted by national forces, especially in his role as chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. For up-to-date election results, Vermonters are encouraged to visit VTDigger on Election Day, where results will be available as soon as polls close at 7 p.m.
