Christine Heller Seaman, a New York woman, has been haunted by the disappearance of her grandparents, Catherine and Charles Romer, for 44 years. The couple vanished in 1980 while traveling home from Miami Beach in their 1978 Lincoln Continental. The Romers had checked into a hotel in Georgia, where they were reported missing.
Recently, a car similar to theirs was found submerged in a Georgia pond, with one human bone discovered inside. While the human remains have not been identified as belonging to the Romers, personal belongings such as jewelry and a license plate bearing the couple’s initials were found in the car. The police department is collaborating with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to uncover more information.
Seaman, who has been worried about her missing relatives for decades, believes that the recent discovery may finally solve the mystery. She expressed relief that her family can now celebrate the lives of the Romers and share happy memories, rather than holding on to dread and sadness. Seaman fondly remembers her grandmother Catherine, who was the “life of the party,” and her step-grandfather Charles, a “lovely and generous man.”
Seaman expressed gratitude for the investigators and diving team who found the submerged car, saying that their efforts have brought a sense of closure to her family. Despite the shock of the recent discovery, Seaman and her family feel thankful for the strangers who have gone to great lengths to help bring peace of mind to their family.
