Vermont Catamounts Fall to #4 Minnesota Duluth in 4-0 Defeat
DULUTH, MN – The Vermont Catamounts faced a challenging matchup against the fourth-ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Friday night, culminating in a 4-0 loss at AMSOIL Arena. This defeat marked their 12th loss of the season, bringing their record to 3-12-2 (2-7-2 WHEA). Conversely, the Bulldogs improved to 9-5-1 (7-4-1 WCHA).
The game started with the Bulldogs quickly establishing dominance. Caitlin Kraemer began with a shot that ricocheted off the post, setting up Danielle Burgen to score the game’s first goal at 10:39 in the first period. Clara Wieren followed suit, netting her 100th career point by spinning past a defender and scoring to make it 2-0 just over a minute later.
The second period saw Minnesota Duluth extend their lead further. Ida Karlsson fired a powerful shot into the top corner early in the period, making it 3-0, before Olivia Mobley capitalized on a power play to score her 50th career goal, solidifying the 4-0 lead.
Despite her team’s struggles, Vermont goalie Jane Gervais put forth a strong effort, making 35 saves and recording her fourth game with 35 or more saves this season. Lara Beecher led the Catamounts in shots with six.
