Vermont Women’s Hockey Team Set to Challenge No. 4 Minnesota Duluth

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of Vermont women’s hockey team (3-11-2, 2-7-2 WHEA) is gearing up for its final non-conference series of the season. This weekend, they will face the highly ranked #4 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (8-5-1, 7-4-1 WCHA) at AMSOIL Arena. Puck drop for Friday’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, while Saturday’s matchup begins at 3 p.m. CT. Both games will be available for streaming on the BIG10+ network.

The Catamounts will look to build on their historic win against Minnesota Gophers in January 2018, which marked a memorable victory for the program against a WCHA team. Historically, Vermont has a record of 2-22-2 against WCHA opponents and will be making its first visit to Duluth in program history.

Leading Vermont’s charge is Evelyne Blais-Savoie, who stands 7th nationally with 199 faceoff wins, showcasing the team’s strength in the faceoff circle. The Catamounts have seen standout performances from players like Ashley Kokavec and Lara Beecher, who lead the defensive and scoring categories respectively.

On the other side, Minnesota Duluth enters the weekend with momentum after a dominant sweep against Bemidji State, outscoring them 10-1. With a stellar power-play percentage of 27.3%, they are a formidable opponent. Graduate student Clara Van Wieren is the Bulldogs’ standout player, leading with 14 points.

As both teams prepare for the showdown, fans can follow updates on the Vermont women’s hockey program through their social media channels, bringing excitement to this pivotal series.
