Vermont Man Charged After Thanksgiving Crash Involving State Police Cruiser
SUTTON, N.H. — A 22-year-old Vermont man faces multiple charges following an alleged incident involving a New Hampshire State Police cruiser on Thanksgiving Day. Daniel Poroj of Shelburne reportedly crashed into the marked police vehicle while responding to numerous weather-related accidents on Interstate 89, just after 10 a.m.
At the time of the incident, the cruiser had its emergency lights activated. Additionally, a nearby New Hampshire Department of Transportation pickup truck was displaying amber lights and an electronic sign instructing drivers to ‘move over’ for emergency responders. According to law enforcement, Poroj was exceeding safe driving speeds given the inclement weather conditions when he lost control of his vehicle. His car not only collided with the police cruiser—while the trooper was out of his vehicle in the right breakdown lane—but also struck the pickup truck belonging to a fire chief who had arrived on scene to assist.
Fortunately, both the trooper and Poroj sustained only minor injuries and received treatment following the crash. Poroj has been cited for several offenses, including driving without a valid license, negligent operation, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving too fast for existing road conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court in March to face these charges.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety, especially during adverse weather conditions. New Hampshire State Police continue to emphasize the importance of slowing down and taking precautions when driving in poor weather, particularly in the presence of emergency vehicles.
