Vermont Man Charged After Thanksgiving Crash in Sutton, N.H.
SUTTON, N.H. (WHDH) – A Vermont man faces multiple charges following a Thanksgiving Day accident in Sutton, N.H., that resulted in a New Hampshire State Police trooper being hospitalized.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning around 10:11 a.m. when a state trooper responded to a driver who had gone off the road on the southbound side of Interstate 89 amidst snowy conditions. While the trooper was assisting the stranded motorist in the breakdown lane, a 2009 black Honda Accord, driven by 22-year-old Daniel Poroj of Shelburne, Vt., was reportedly traveling at excessive speeds for the conditions. Poroj’s vehicle slid into the parked police cruiser, as well as a nearby fire chief’s pickup truck.
Both Poroj and the state trooper were transported to New London Hospital with minor injuries following the collision. It was reported that the trooper’s cruiser had its emergency lights flashing, and a Department of Transportation truck was on scene with an electronic message board instructing motorists to “move over.”
In connection with the crash, Poroj has received a summons to appear in Hillsborough District Court in March. He faces several charges, including operating a vehicle without a valid license, negligent driving, having an unregistered vehicle, failing to follow duty when approaching a highway emergency, and driving too fast for the weather conditions.
Authorities remind drivers to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions and to prioritize safety for emergency responders on the road.
